“Honda South Africa is happy to put this matter of almost 6 years behind us and work together with Mr Hoffmann and his companies to help the less fortunate, especially in the current economic climate,” said Graham Eagle, Sales and Marketing Director of Honda SA.”The first batch of generators will be supplied to the charity organisations during January and February 2010. Some of the charities that will benefit are emergency services, rural schools and clinics, and Hospice. In terms of the settlement, Hoffmann International agreed to purchase from Honda South Africa, at cost, generators to the value of R400 000, which will be jointly donated to various mutually agreed upon charities. The case was brought by Honda SA and its Japanese parent company, Honda Motor Company Japan, against a South African owned company, Hoffmann International, a supplier of generators, engines, pumps and alternative power solutions, for the alleged passing off of the Chinese manufactured Karma engines as being or having an association with Honda’s GX range of engines. “Charity organisations will be the major beneficiaries of an out-of-court settlement reached between the Power Products Division of Honda South Africa, its parent company Honda Motor Corporation and Hoffman International. |

COMMENT
(i) The press release “Court Order Benefits Local Charities” is self explanatory.
(ii) Hoffmann have not imported one single Kama engine since 2002.
(iii) Of exceptional importance to both parties was that the legal matter of almost six years and longer was put behind them.

In terms of the joint agreement Hoffmann agreed to purchase generators from Honda at a cost value of R400,000, which would then be jointly donated to various mutally agreed upon charities.
The full amount has been paid in by Hoffmann who have already begun the distribution to charities as illustrated on the opposite page.

WATER – THE “MOST IMPORTANT” COMMODITY IN OUR LIVES
Many areas in South Africa including people in towns and cities have experienced water cut- offs for either hours or in some cases days or even weeks. This can be disasterous for hotels or bed and breakfast establishments, businesses, clinics and homes. It is projected that water shortages are going to be severe and much worse than power cuts have been. Instead of a generator one needs to consider the placing in their property of a storage water tank which need not be dug into the ground but placed on a concrete slab. The tank is then filled with clean water and fitted with a pressure booster pump which suitably operate showers, toilets etc.automatically, maintaining a normal town or city pressure to the house, clinic or business. |

With a normal shower head one needs to calculate 90 litres needed to shower for each person.
Low volume shower head which can be purchased from almost any plumbing supply place.
You only need 40 litres of water per person showering.
